It’s quiz time on day 21 of the 365 day charity challenge in which I strive to wear a different pair of trainers every day in 2014. It’s all in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK
Just say what you see. Yes, we’re playing a game of that old TV quiz show Catchphrase! Y’see , I had a headline ready for today’s blog, but it was a pun so bad, I thought I’d let you see if you’re brain works in the same way as mine. Which is doubtful. And to be congratulated.
So, say what you see.
Vans flying thing?
Blue trainer bad special effects?
Gold stripe Star Wars toy?
Hmm, maybe it’d help if you knew the name of the trainers and could work out what the Lego thing was. Today’s trainers are Vans Old Skool, which I first encountered when I saw Daman Albarn wearing ’em in the “Park Life” video (and if you think I’m a bit barmy about trainers you should check out this feature on Albarn’s bandmate Graham Coxon). I’ve still got the pair I bough way back then, and they may make an appearance in a themed “classic week” but they are looking very tired. This newer blue pair benefit from the simple edition of a gold “Vans” stripe which, for some odd reason, makes them look about 10 times more impressive.
Anyway, we’ve worked out what the trainers are called, so what’s the dangling Lego thing that’s been so flawlessly matted into the shot using the latest CGI technology (or, possibly, some cotton)? It’s actually a Lego TIE fighter (TIE standing for Twin Ion Engine, fact fans). I do actually own one myself, but workmate Jordan has one ready built on his desk, so I actually borrowed his one. Which probably saved me all of 10 seconds if the number of pieces in the pack is anything to go by.
Anyway, so now we have Old Skool Trainers, and a TIE fighter. So today’s headline would have been… (don’t scroll down if you’re still trying to guess)…
The Old Skool TIE fighter. Congratulations if you got it. You can now work on any tabloid newspaper.
Good day for the charity yesterday with another £25 coming in. But now that the end of my trainer collection in sight, and only three pairs of on-promise trainers (maybe five, but someone’s gone radio silent) in hand, I’m not going to make it through February, let alone the year. So make it worth my while making a tit of myself begging people and companies for trainers to borrow by making a donation. Or lending me some trainers.
Hey, anybody got Graham Coxon’s email address?
Usual sign off:
Current total: £325
