Finally, some of those donated shoes go on sale to help raise money for the charity
Don’t worry, these 20 year-old Old Skool Vans aren’t one of the pairs I’m trying to flog. They’re the first pair of Vans I ever bought, at the height of Brit Pop, having seen Damon Albarn wear a pair in the “Park Life” video. Incidentally, I hated the trackie top he wore in the same vid… so I definitely wasn’t just trying to emulate his look; I was never that keen on the song either, to be honest, though the rest of the album contains moments of genius, including “This Is A Low”, “ “Badhead” (the best Blur single never released), “Far Out” and “To The End” (which a friend of mine – Viv – reminded me last week we once sang in a duet in its entirety one New Year’s Eve Party – I’m glad that was before the proliferation of social media).
I did, of course, previously wear a newer pair of Vans Old Skool in this challenge, but they had a gold swoosh, so these are technically a different style.
Galactic credits courtesy of this site by the way (I don’t want people thinking I’d designed these little beauties).
The money theme is by way of announcement that I spent a great deal of yesterday evening putting the first three pairs of fundraising trainers up on eBay.
So now you can bid on the yellow Vans (size 9) which have been customised by V For Vendetta artist David Lloyd (click on the images to go the the auction page).
The limited edition Nike Nike Court Force Hi Premiums 2006 World Cup Edition Size 9 (click on the image to go the the auction page). These were donated by the legend that is Steve Gotobed, and they are very, very lovely indeed.
And these lovely purple Converse (size 8 1/2) which honestly, I’ve worn twice!
So go on… buy yourself some cool kicks and make yourself feel good about yourself at the same time.
Proceeds on the top two will go straight into the Sole Of Sci-Fi donations pot. Proceeds form the bottom pair (the Cons) – since they are a pair I bought myself – will be ploughed back into further trainer purchases for the sake of the Challenge.
Let the bidding commence!
