Day 188: Trainers-formers

Trainers not very much in disguise. The charity challenge versus the latest summer blockbuster

July 7 main

I haven’t seen Transformers: Age Of Extinction. Nor will I until it comes out on Blu-ray, at which point I’ll no doubt be mystified by both how much it made at the box office and why critics loathed it so much. Because, like all two previous Transformers movies* it probably won’t be as bad as the reviews suggests – it’ll be a competently made action film with some stunning FX – but it will still be mindnumbingly predictable, noisy and burdened with some unbelievably dopey humour.

(*Yes, I can count – the first film actually received a good deal of positive reviews.)

Reviewing  film I haven’t seen? Well, not really. Just making some predictions and that I will be happy to say were wrong if when I eventually watch Age Of Extinction I discover an unfairly maligned classic. But I don’t think you’ll find any betting shops that’ll gave you odds on that.

Today’s Adidas trainers have been supplied by long-time colleague and former SFX blogger and Comic Review mainstay Zombie Kudos, and they come with a story:

“I bought this pair of Adidas 10 years ago in Las Vegas after winning a ton of cash on the roulette table when number 23 came up three times in a row,” writes Steven (he’s not really called Zombie).

Let’s hope they’re just as lucky for me. Wouldn’t it be bizarre if someone donated £23 to the charity today – hint hint.

Usual Sign-Off

• Current total: £1,045

• Remember this is all for charity, so any pennies or pounds you can spare PLEASE DONATE BY CLICKING HERE.

• Follow me on Twitter to make sure you see what trainers I’m wearing each day.

• If you have any trainers you could donate (either on loan or old pairs you’re getting rid of) which are size 9 (ish – I can do anything  from 8 to 10) contact me at so I can arrange collection.

• Please, please, please leave comments below! I’m after ideas for mini-challenges, future photoshoots and how I can find enough pairs of trainers!
