Finally, a Sole Of Sci-Fi tribute the Twelfth Doctor
I couldn’t resist. Here’s my tribute to the Twelfth Doctor’s debut. I’ve lavished my usual budget on it, as you can see.
Also, after last night, I’ve realised what my answer will be for ever more any time that anybody ever asks me what my favourite Doctor Who story is: “An Adventure In Space And Time”. Yes, I caught the repeat of Mark Gatiss’s masterpiece last night, and it was every bit as brilliant as I recalled. When I have some spare cash again, I’m definitely buying the Blu-ray; what I had forgotten was how beautifully shot it was. It was as much a love letter to the iconic BBC TV centre building as it was to the early years of Doctor Who.
Because the best thing about it was that it wasn’t just a nostalgia-fest. Gatiss did mine the real human story at its hearts; how Doctor Who was a success that kicked off one career and was the swan song of another. It’s wonderful, wonderful television. It was my highlight of the 50th anniversary celebrations (“The Five-ish Doctors” a close second) and it pretty much eclipsed by enjoyment of “Deep Breath” this weekend too.
The grey Vans are another £1 (+p&p) eBay purchase. They may be a bit battered, but I really like ’em. Not sure why. I’ll be secretly hoping they don’t sell at the car boot, but Bath’s a university city, and you know what students are like.
See you tomorrow.
