Me and my Pumas sneak off in the TARDIS while Mr & Mrs Who snog. Again.
Time to leave the Doctor and River in the lower levels of the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff… erm, sorry, I mean the Stormcage Containment Facility (renowned throughout history and the universe as the lowest security high security prison ever built) and nip off in the TARDIS.
Unlike 57% of all new time travellers, I wouldn’t want to kill Hitler, discover if Jesus was a shyster or save JFK from being assassinated. Instead, I think I’d try to save another tri-initialled American icon of the ’60s from being assassinated – MLK. It’s Memphis, 4 April 1968 for me. Of course, I’d pop back to Washington DC on 28th August 1963 first to hear Martin Luther King’s, “I have a dream” speech.
Now, that’s an episode of Doctor Who I’d like to see. And I’d like Paul Cornell to write it, because “Family Of Blood” showed how he could combine real world tragedy with Doctor Who silliness in a way that didn’t trivialised the issues and left a lump in your throat.
Some interesting developments on the work front after weeks of disappointment. I don’t want to fate anything by talking about it too early but one email conversation with a certain ’80s director has lead to no less than three commissions, one on a magazine you wouldn’t expect me to work for, but I’m really excited about.
Spent most of yesterday evening preparing questions for a charity quiz I’m hosting on Saturday. For reasons too complicated to explain, the charity is not Alzheimer’s Research UK but the British Heart Foundation. I feel a little like I’m cheating on a partner, but it’s all for a good cause. A group of us are providing the questions for two round each. My rounds are music and TV. So yes, there is some Doctor Who in there.
I’ll post the questions I came up with on Sunday. Can’t post them before just in case anybody who turn up for the quiz follows this blog. It’s unlikely, but you never know.
See you tomorrow.
