Day 288: District Three Stripes

Let the Footwear Games commence…

October 15 main

Welcome to District Three Stripes, where the tributes selected for annual The Footwear Games are a pair of inseparable Adidas Superstar trainers. They look lean and mean to me. I’m betting they do better than those soft K-Swiss tributes from District Five Stripes, though the smart money is the Cons twins from District One Star.

Have I strangled that gag into a inch of death? Yep, thought so.

Another day of dawn-to-dusk reviewing today (there are a LOT of extras to watch on extended Hobbit films, and I’ve got about a million episodes of Out Of The Unknown to get through too) but here are a couple of random things that I haven’t mentioned previously.

ADIDAS_STAN_SMITH_3Earlier this year I was contacted by a fashion journalist, Harriet Walker, who wanted to interview a trainer fan about Adidas Stan Smiths. I was happy to oblige, but the interview took place just before I left Future Publishing, and all my correspondence with Harriet was via my old work email account. When I went freelance and changed to a personal email account, I forgot to transfer her details across, and neglected to contact her to give her my new address. So she may have tried contacting me since to tell me when the feature went live, but I would never have received the message.

So, the article went to the back of my mind, until today’s Adidas jogged my memory. Okay, they’re not Stan Smiths, but they’re white – it was enough. A quick Google search later and I found this. So, hey, I’m officially a fashion pundit now, and quite proud of the fact.

And remember that I said I was playing the role of a presenter at a charity quiz on Saturday night? The experience reminded my that I suffer from a strange form of retro stage fright. It happens whenever I do a public performance, whether that’s being interviewed on radio and TV, acting in amateur plays at the theatre or presenting at SFX events. I’m never nervous before hand. I love the thrill of the live experience itself. But as soon as it’s over, I get hit by nerves, convinced I must have been rubbish. And it can last for days. I’m only now beginning to believe that I may not have made a right prat of myself on Saturday night.

Anyway, Middle-earth beckons.
